February 2004 Solent DA conservation meet in the New Forest. About 13 units camped at Setthorn Forest site. On Saturday approx 25 members split in to two groups. One group met with keepers at Whitefield Moor car park and the second group at Canada Cross car park. The keepers explained the tasks ahead which included clearing heathland of small scotts pines and seedlings and clearing larger pines for wetlands. The weather was fine and sunny and a very enjoyable day was had by all. By the end of the day the first group had cleared 2 1/2 square kilometres of heathland. The second group cleared about 2 square kilometres of larger pines making way for more wetland restoration. The keepers - Andy, Dave and Sally thanked everyone, on behalf of the Forestry Commission, for their hard workand hoped to see them again next year. Over the same weekend a conservation quiz was set for the younger members who for health and safety reasons could not enter the conservation project area. The good results of the quiz were very encouraging.
